Ordering your preferences

To give yourself the best chance of getting an offer for your preferred program, think carefully about how you choose and order your preferences.

You can list up to 6 preferences. You can only receive 1 offer per offer round – for your highest eligible preference.

Here's how to order your preferences to make the most of your QTAC application:

Once you've decided on your 6 programs, you can refine the order by thinking about:

If you change your mind or don't get the entry score you expected, you can change your preferences.

Offers

We make offers through QTAC. If you're offered a place in a UQ program, QTAC will contact you with details and instructions for responding to the offer.

For Semester 1, 2025 we'll make offers between 10 October 2024 and 20 February 2025.

You may not get an offer at the same time as people you know, but that doesn't necessarily mean you've missed out. Different universities may make offers on different dates, and not all programs are offered in the same offer round. You can check offer round dates on the QTAC site.

Ready to apply? How to submit your application depends on what type of applicant you are.

Your senior schooling is from outside Australia

If you're not currently completing senior schooling from Australia (Year 12 or International Baccalaureate), submit an application directly to UQ.

You can complete the application yourself or apply through an approved UQ agent near you. Applicants from certain countries must apply through an agent – our online application system will let you know if you need to do this.

We recommend applying early. We can consider applications up to 2 years in advance, and some programs have limited places. You must leave enough time for UQ to process your application and issue an offer, and for you to organise your student visa.

Step 1: Create an account

If you can't access UQ Online Applications, email applicationstatus@uq.edu.au to request a hard-copy form. We charge a non-refundable fee of A$150 if you use a hard-copy form.

Step 2: Complete your application

Complete all details on the application form and include all required documents. You can save an incomplete form and return later.

On your application, let us know if:

You will need to provide:

You only need to submit an academic transcript for non-UQ programs.

Provide a certified copy of your transcript as soon as it is available. Transcripts can be certified at a Student Centre, by an approved UQ agent, or by other appropriate parties.

Don't send original documents. We're not able to return them.

If you're waiting to complete your studies

If you're waiting for a transcript or your current results, you can submit your application with a note stating when your transcript is likely to be available. Forward a certified copy of your transcript as soon as you receive it.

When you forward your transcript, you need to clearly:

Step 3: Submit your application

When you're satisfied your application is complete, submit it.

You'll need to pay a A$150 fee for each application you submit. This fee can't be refunded.

Closing dates

Make sure you submit your application by the closing date:

Some programs have different closing dates – these will be listed on the program page.

We may consider late applications, but this can't be guaranteed.

UQ College courses

For all UQ College English courses, including the Bridging English (BE) program, the deadline to apply, accept your offer and pay tuition fees, is 4 weeks before the course start date. UQ College cannot guarantee that places will be available after the deadline. Late applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Step 4: Manage your application

UQ International Admissions will assess your application. They will contact you through UQ Online Applications with any updates or requests for additional information.

How we assess applications

We assess each application on a case-by-case basis. Our International Admissions team will review your qualification to check that it meets the requirements of the program you're interested in.

We also refer to the reputation or ranking of your institution and the Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE) Qualifications Recognition Service. This ensures your academic background meets Australian standards as well as the subject or discipline requirements of a UQ program.

All UQ qualifications are aligned to the Australian Qualifications Framework.
